During the Spring season there are many black bears in the Callaghan Valley located South of Whistler on HWY 99. The black bears enjoy feeding on the soft grass and vegetation found in the plains in the valley. Many tourists enjoy driving along Callaghan Valley Road to view the black bears while going to and from Whistler resort. Make sure not to stop on the road and do not feed any animals. This area is only a few kilometers away from the Olympic Park that hosted the games during 2012. The black bears are usually active in the area from May until October. The photo below was taken on May 18, 2012 when several black bears were observed in the Callaghan Valley area.
